How it all began

I, Dirk Sturat, came to my current company by chance, curiosity and technical interest. In 2004, curiosity got the better of me when I was visiting my parents and was driving their Mercedes C-Class W202. The displays in the speedometer were no longer showing the outside temperature and time correctly. It was pretty pixelated and actually you could still read something correctly. I found that very strange and asked my parents what the Daimler workshop had to say about it. I found out that Daimler apparently had no idea. Or rather: "That's just the way it is and if you wanted to get rid of it, you would have to buy a completely new instrument!" With these words, they were left alone with the problem.

WOW! Over 500€ for an instrument cluster!

Even then it was very expensive. My parents didn't think it was worth the expensive replacement and they left the fault in the instrument as it was. But then I got curious and took the instrument out and took a closer look at the LCD. Of course I didn't have a solution straight away. It took a while, but after a few hours I had a first idea. When I look at it with my knowledge and the spare parts available today...it was more of a DIY solution.

BUT, it worked!

A few years later, and even when the car was sold, my repair on the instrument cluster still worked. And that's exactly what got everything rolling. I tinkered with other repair methods and found companies that produced suitable spare parts for me. The more I got into the subject, the more I realized that there were problems not only with this Mercedes Benz model, but with almost all brands. Crazy!

That can't be true?!

All manufacturers only sell complete units and do not repair them! I recognized the great benefit for my customers. If everything worked out as I imagined, my repairs would save customers a lot of money, not so much would be thrown away and resources would be saved. I would have a job that I would enjoy and a functioning business model.

I then wrote, made phone calls and drove to car repair shops and car dealerships and offered my services. A website was created and little by little my small basement company grew.

  • 2005- Founding of Pixelfehler Hamburg
  • 2007- Move to Seevetal
  • 2010- Move within Seevetal
  • 2014- Move back to Hamburg
  • 2021- Move to the current location in Hamburg

On to the Future

A lot has happened in the last few years and Pixelfehler Hamburg has developed well and also changed a lot. Since July 2021, we have adapted our structure to the challenges of the coming years. The idea had been discussed for a long time, but Corona has accelerated everything even more. We want to keep up with the times and move forward with digitalization. As a result, we have adapted our repair processes, order acceptance, premises and homepage. A lot of things are now digital and automated. We are constantly expanding our range of repairs and are now working with friendly cooperation partners. The aim is to make our repair platform even better known and to include even more electronics repairs. Our spare parts division with very special spare parts for speedometer and navigation repairs is also regularly expanded. We offer these under our own brand Distutron® .

Dirk has been tinkering and tinkering for as long as he can remember. In 2005, he founded Pixelfehler Hamburg out of this passion. With his training as a machine fitter and as a state-certified technician for automation technology, he has the necessary know-how to offer his customers the best solutions.
